Nowadays, we are very much concerned with how we look in public – how we blend into the crowd of fashi0n and style enthusiasts. We spend almost an hour in front of our full-size mirror just to make sure that we dress our best in order not to become the laughing-stock in a world where skinny jeans, boyfriend shirts and stilettos proliferate. We tend to become overly conscious of how other people perceive us – best or worst dressed. But is blending into the crowd really worth it?
When we look for clothes today, we don’t think so much of how convenient they will be to wear but on how we will look in them. Sometimes, we don’t care anymore whether the dress would fit our body type as long as it’s “in”. Later, we regret that we we shouldn’t have bought the dress because it’s just a pain in the ass. It might be that it’s too tight that it limits our movement or is too short that it shows our navel when we raise our hands (so we end up constantly having to pull it down). Remember that in fashion, comfort is always the key. What’s the use of being “in” if you are so uncomfortable with what you are wearing? It shouldn’t matter whether or not we are at the cutting edge of fashion as long as we carry ourselves well and we don’t make ourselves as sores in the eyes of the people by wearing clothes which really do not look good on us, even if those clothes are “in” today.
It’s normal for us to seek attention and appreciation in what we say and do. However, it’s not always these two that would bring us to the glory that we want to have. Being just the way we are, whether we fit in or not, is more important than pretending to be someone we are not. People can easily see how genuine a person is. So, forget all pretense and stand out from the rest by wearing the most important fashion item of all – your true self.
